On Ethics:

The fashion industry is responsible for incredible harm in our world. Wasteful manufacturing methods, cruel labor practices, and the damage wrought from a century plus of “be ___ body type or be worthless” advertising have taken their toll. Here at the ‘Cult we realize we are part of a flawed system and we are doing our best to rebel against it (while still doing what we love). Here’s some examples of how:

♥-Waste: Big brands dispose of millions of unworn items every year. We chose to produce our main collection in small numbers to reduce the waste and quantity of items we make. Fewer items means less wasted fabric, and less “extra” clothing to store that may or may not be sold. Our print collection is solely made to order, we keep no stock of these items and only manufacture what has been sold.

♥-Manufacturing: We do our utmost to thoroughly vet and research any external teams we collaborate with to make sure their standards meet ours. Ethical manufacturing is worth the investment both in time and money. And yes, you can find ethical manufacturers outside of North America.

♥-Environment: Our handmade accessories all include 60-95% recycled or vintage materials. Repurposing beautiful elements of otherwise wasted items keeps them out of landfills and makes one of a kind art.

- Our “Second Hand” section (which features select inventory from our IRL store Doll Funeral) keeps unique clothing within the alternative community and out of landfills.

♥-Community: Undoing the damage hateful marketing ideas and “standards” have done is very important to us. Our shoots feature models across a spectrum of age, size, race, disability, etc. We do not edit or change the body sizes or shapes of the models in our photos. Style and creativity is for EVERYONE. All of our in-person events (Tea Parties and Photoshoot Parties) are inclusive, welcoming spaces with 0 tolerance policies for creeps or judgement.

♥-Online Community: We have a 0 tolerance policy for sexual, rude, or cruel comments on all of our social media platforms and enforce it daily (we don’t participate in or platform the condescending, sexualizing, crap commentary that seems prevalent these days). We can all work together to make the online world (and the “irl” one) more hospitable and kind. If you’re here seeking content to mock on disgusting websites, honestly that says all we'd need to know about you ever (why don't you go try and create something?). Lol….

♥- AI: We do not use AI for any purpose at Gloomth, training machines to make “art” is a waste of technology and insulting to human artists.

♥- Photoshop: We do not change our models’ body sizes or shape when editing photos, it’s important to represent how a garment actually fits someone as best we can. We also don’t change their face shape or structure (erasing a blemish is one thing, changing your face completely is another). The world is full of enough false photos.

♥-Celebrities and “Influencers” (especially ones who write asking for free clothing) get charged double. Respectfully, fuck off.

♥-Queer Owned/Operated: The history of LBGTQ+ rights includes riots started by s-x workers and trans people. All genders, occupations, and sexualities are welcome here. We stand with our community.

♥-Black Lives Matter: Obviously. Does this need to even be said? We will do our best to be inclusive and supportive in every way we can, and strive to own and learn from our mistakes.

♥-We stand with Palestinian liberation. Cease-fire now.
